The Si Wong Desert, also known as the Desert of the Dead, is a gigantic arid region located between the Land of Wind and the Land of Fire. It is the largest, hottest, and driest desert on Earth, and because of its extreme climate, it is nearly impossible to cross completely. It is inhabited, albeit sparsely, by the sand tribes and beetle-headed merchants.

Also known as the "Desert of the Dead" the Si Wong Desert is the driest and hottest environment in the shinobi world, featuring miles and miles of barren sand. It was home to the largest library in the world before it returned to the Spirit World.

Very few are mentally and physically able to survive and trasverse through the deadly sands of the Si Wong Desert for extended periods of time. Some desert-dwelling peoples, like the sand tribes and beetle-headed merchants, have been able to adapt to the hostile environment. However, even they found themselvews victims of common problems of the desert such as starvation, dehydration, and skin cancer. While mostly barren, the ecosystem of some parts of the desert consists of cacti and few scavenging species, such as the gilacorn and the predatory buzzard wasps and sand sharks.
